You’ve helped hundreds of companies fix and optimize their data warehousing issues in your career. What’s been the biggest misconception about data in the workforce that you’ve come across?
How data is perceived by everyone. As if somehow, when we collect data about everything, we would almost automatically get all the answers. Data is not information by itself. While with the latest cloud connectivity to everything, it is relatively easy to collect for any technically-orientated person. However, that’s where the hard part comes in.
What are some of the biggest changes you’ve seen in the corporate landscape?
Moving to a cloud, everyone gets much easier access to data and what I call “generalized automation of information”. The last part is very much where we are moving – hopefully where it produces more meaningful insights for a non “data scientist” type of user.
What makes a great consultant?
It is not just a consultant, but any worker really. If you care about what you do and are honest about your work, you will always succeed.
What’s one rule you live by?
Work the problem. This one is more recent for me.
